A Private Front Garden Retreat in Pontefract – West Yorkshire Garden Design Concept & Walkthrough Animation

Designing front gardens is always an exciting challenge — they’re the first thing people see and set the tone for the entire property. For this project in Pontefract, my clients wanted their front garden to be more than just a space for kerb appeal. They envisioned a peaceful seating area with privacy, surrounded by planting and a natural feel that complements the home.

Creating a Private and Functional Front Garden

When I began designing this West Yorkshire garden, I wanted to strike the perfect balance between practicality, privacy, and visual appeal. The homeowners wanted a comfortable seating area at the front of the house — something unusual but increasingly popular for properties where the sun hits the front garden for most of the day.

To achieve this, I incorporated a timber pergola structure for shade and structure, paired with trellis panels to create a sense of privacy without closing off the space completely. The result is a welcoming yet secluded area that feels calm and connected to the rest of the garden.

Using Sleepers for Raised Beds and Planting Areas

The garden’s planting design was an essential part of the concept. I used sleeper raised beds to define the planting zones, giving the garden structure while also making the maintenance more manageable.

The natural tones of the timber sleepers complement the paving beautifully and help blend the hard landscaping with the soft planting. Raised beds also create opportunities for layered planting — from evergreen shrubs for privacy to seasonal flowers that bring life and colour throughout the year.

Natural Finishes: Indian Sandstone and Cobble Paths

For the paving, I selected Indian sandstone, a durable and timeless material that suits both modern and traditional West Yorkshire homes. Its natural variation in tone adds warmth and character to the seating area, while cobble set paths provide a traditional finish and help define movement through the garden.

This combination of materials creates a tactile and visually interesting landscape that’s designed to stand the test of time — ideal for West Yorkshire’s changing weather conditions.

Bringing the Design to Life with a Walkthrough Animation

To help my clients visualise how their front garden would look before construction, I created a walkthrough animation. This 3D visual allows them to explore the design from every angle — seeing how the pergola frames the space, how sunlight moves across the patio, and how the planting softens the edges.

Animations like this are an invaluable part of my West Yorkshire garden design process, helping clients feel confident about their investment before any materials are ordered or groundwork begins.

Tailored West Yorkshire Garden Design

Every project I design reflects the unique needs and personality of my clients. Whether it’s a private front garden in Pontefract, a multi-level garden in Leeds, or a country garden in Wakefield, I always ensure the final design enhances the property and feels timeless.

If you’re considering transforming your outdoor space, I’d love to help bring your ideas to life with a bespoke West Yorkshire garden design concept and walkthrough animation.
