Designing gardens across West Yorkshire gives me the opportunity to create outdoor spaces that are both stylish and practical. For this rear garden in Wakefield, I developed concept plans and a walkthrough animation that transform a sloping space into a beautiful two-level design. The layout features porcelain paving, brick raised beds, a pergola, and a central lawn, all carefully planned to make the most of the available space. Two-Level Garden Design in Wakefield
This garden is designed across two levels, giving the space structure and flow. By using different heights, I created a layout that separates dining, entertaining, and relaxing areas while keeping the garden connected as one.
The Upper Level – Dining Area with Porcelain Paving
Directly outside the house, I designed an upper patio with porcelain paving, creating a sleek and modern dining area. Porcelain is an excellent choice for West Yorkshire gardens because it is:
Low maintenance – Easy to clean and resistant to staining.
Durable – Withstands frost and heavy use.
Stylish – Available in contemporary colours and finishes.
Practical – Perfect for a high-traffic area like a dining terrace.
From this space, a porcelain-paved path leads across the top level, connecting the house to the steps down to the lower garden. Read more about my porcelain paving.
The Lower Level – Patio, Pergola, and Planting
The lower garden creates a more relaxed atmosphere. Here I designed a second porcelain patio, sheltered with a pergola, making it ideal for outdoor seating and entertaining. The pergola adds height, interest, and the option for climbing plants to soften the structure. Learn more about my pergola garden design services here.
Alongside the patio, I incorporated brick raised beds for planting. These add strong definition and allow for layered planting, bringing colour and texture into the design.
A Central Lawn for Balance
To complete the design, the lower garden also features a central lawn. This softens the hard landscaping and provides an open, green space that balances the patios and planting beds. The lawn helps tie the two levels together, making the garden practical, family-friendly, and inviting. Discover more about my real grass and artificial
Walkthrough Animation of the Wakefield Garden
As with all my projects, I produced a 3D walkthrough animation for this Wakefield garden design. The animation shows how the upper porcelain patio, path, pergola, raised beds, and lawn all connect, helping the client to visualise the garden before construction begins. This is a vital step in my design process, giving clients confidence in how the finished garden will look and feel. See more of my garden walkthrough animations here.
