These two concept plans show how a garden can be transformed into a structured, multi‑level outdoor space with strong architectural features and practical everyday usability. Both layouts share the same core design principles — clean lines, raised brick beds, trellis panels, ramps, steps and a central pergola — but each uses a different paving material to give the client a clear choice in style and atmosphere. A small area of artificial grass has also been included specifically for the dogs, ensuring the garden works for the whole household.
A Structured Garden with Defined Zones
The design is built around a central axis, with the pergola acting as the main focal point. From the moment you enter through the gate, the garden guides you through a series of clearly defined spaces. Raised beds, decorative gravel, porcelain or sandstone paving and trellis panels all work together to create a layout that feels balanced, modern and easy to navigate.
A Garden Designed for Real Life
The layout includes steps and ramps to ensure smooth movement between levels, making the garden accessible and practical. The small artificial grass area has been positioned to give the dogs a clean, durable space of their own without compromising the overall aesthetic of the garden.
Concept Plan One — Porcelain Paving for a Contemporary Finish
The first concept uses porcelain paving to create a crisp, modern look. The light and dark porcelain tones define different zones and give the garden a clean architectural feel. Porcelain is ideal for clients who want a low‑maintenance, durable surface that stays looking sharp throughout the year. The contrast between the porcelain and the brick raised beds adds depth and structure to the design.
Concept Plan Two — Sandstone Paving for a Warmer, Natural Look
The second concept uses sandstone paving, giving the garden a softer, more traditional feel. The natural variation in the stone adds warmth and texture, creating a more organic atmosphere while still maintaining the strong structure of the layout. Sandstone works beautifully with the raised beds and planting, offering a timeless finish that blends seamlessly with the surrounding materials.
The Pergola as the Central Architectural Feature
In both concepts, the pergola sits at the heart of the garden, creating a sheltered seating area framed by trellis panels. This adds height, privacy and a sense of enclosure, making it a perfect spot for relaxing or entertaining. The pergola also anchors the entire design, drawing the eye and giving the garden a clear focal point.
Planting, Raised Beds and Decorative Gravel
Brick raised beds run along both sides of the garden, allowing for layered planting that brings colour, texture and seasonal interest. Decorative gravel areas soften the hard landscaping and provide a clean transition between the paved zones and the planting. The combination of materials ensures the garden feels cohesive, structured and visually balanced.
Two Material Options, One Unified Vision
Although the paving materials differ, both concepts share the same strong layout and practical features. The choice between porcelain and sandstone allows the client to decide whether they prefer a contemporary or more natural aesthetic, while the overall design remains consistent, functional and tailored to their lifestyle — including the needs of their dogs.
Bringing the Garden to Life
These concept plans provide a clear vision of how the finished garden will look and function. The combination of raised beds, trellis panels, ramps, steps, artificial turf and a central pergola creates a modern, practical and visually striking outdoor space. As always, the focus is on creating a garden that feels timeless, balanced and perfectly suited to the way the client lives.
