Exploring Two Distinct Design Directions
Creating a modern garden for a property in Wakefield means balancing strong geometry with practical outdoor living. For this project, I developed two concept plans that give the client clear options on how their space could evolve, each offering a different atmosphere while keeping the core structure and materials consistent.
Concept Plan One
The first concept focuses on clean lines and a contemporary layout. Porcelain paving forms the main terraces, with brick raised beds adding height and structure around the seating areas. Timber pergolas frame the dining and lounge spaces, giving the garden a sense of rhythm and architectural interest. A curved lawn softens the geometry and helps the garden feel more inviting, while layered planting brings colour and texture throughout the year. This version is designed for relaxed daytime use, with a strong emphasis on open space, movement and easy maintenance.
Concept Plan Two
The second concept introduces a more atmospheric feel by adding a fire pit beneath a timber pergola. This creates a warm focal point for evening gatherings and extends the usability of the garden into the cooler months. The layout still features porcelain paving, sandstone cobble detailing and structured raised beds, but the fire pit area adds intimacy and character. The curved lawn and strong lines remain, giving the garden a modern, balanced look that works well for both everyday use and entertaining.

Both concepts give the client a clear vision of how their garden can be transformed, whether they prefer a clean, contemporary layout or a design with a stronger focus on evening ambience. Each version is tailored to the property and the way the space will be used, ensuring the final design feels personal, functional and visually cohesive.
