Designing gardens in Holmfirth is always rewarding, with the surrounding Yorkshire landscape inspiring elegant and practical outdoor spaces. For this project, I created a set of garden layout plans and a walkthrough animation that show how a rear garden can be transformed into a space for entertaining, relaxing, and year-round enjoyment.

Garden Layout Plans for a Rear Garden in Holmfirth

The garden needed a design that combined structure, usability, and style. I developed a layout plan that flows seamlessly from the house, creating zones for dining, cooking, planting, and open green space.

Indian Sandstone Paving with Cobble Sets

At the centre of the design is a patio finished in Indian sandstone paving, bordered neatly with cobble sets. This combination creates a timeless and durable surface that complements the style of many homes in Holmfirth while offering plenty of space for outdoor furniture.

Stone Retaining Walls

To make the most of the garden’s natural levels, I designed stone retaining walls. These provide definition, hold the structure of the garden, and create planting opportunities. The natural stone also ties the garden beautifully into the Yorkshire surroundings.

Water Feature for Tranquillity

A bespoke water feature was placed within the garden to bring sound, movement, and atmosphere. The flowing water creates a calming effect and serves as a focal point, enhancing the planting around it.

Outdoor Kitchen with Canopy or Pergola

The outdoor kitchen is a key feature of the layout plan, positioned beneath a canopy or pergola to provide shelter and shade. This area is perfect for cooking, socialising, and enjoying al fresco dining in all seasons.

Planting and Lawn

To soften the stonework and paving, I included planting beds with perennials, shrubs, and seasonal colour. These add texture, attract pollinators, and bring year-round interest. A lawn area was kept within the layout to provide open space for relaxation and family use.

Walkthrough Garden Animation

The walkthrough animation brings the layout plans to life, showing how each element connects and how the garden flows from one zone to another. It’s an excellent way for clients to visualise the finished design.
