Outdoor Kitchen Concept Plans for a Large Wakefield Garden

Designing outdoor kitchens is one of the most rewarding parts of my work, especially when the space is large enough to create a full outdoor living environment. This recent project in Wakefield involved producing two detailed concept plans and a walkthrough animation for a spacious rear garden. Each version explores a different paving material and a different outdoor kitchen layout, giving the client a clear understanding of how the space could look and function throughout the year. As someone who regularly works across Pontefract, Wakefield, Doncaster and Sheffield, I know how important it is for homeowners to see their outdoor kitchen and entertaining areas brought to life visually before any construction begins.

A Large Garden Designed for Outdoor Cooking and Year‑Round Entertaining

This Wakefield garden has the scale and proportions needed to create a true outdoor living environment. My aim was to design a layout that feels cohesive, practical and welcoming, with a strong focus on cooking, dining and socialising. The two concept plans share the same overall structure but differ in paving materials and kitchen configurations, allowing the client to compare the atmosphere and functionality of each option.

Sandstone vs Porcelain – Two Distinct Material Styles

In the first concept, I used sandstone paving to create a warm, natural and traditional feel. The second concept uses porcelain paving, giving the space a more contemporary, clean and refined appearance. Both materials work beautifully in large gardens, but each brings a different character to the outdoor kitchen and entertaining areas. By presenting both options, the client can clearly see how the choice of paving influences the overall mood of the design.

Outdoor Kitchen Layouts with All‑Weather Canopies

Both versions of the concept include a fully equipped outdoor kitchen positioned beneath a canopy. This ensures the space can be used in all weather conditions and throughout the year, which is essential for clients who enjoy cooking and entertaining outdoors. The two layouts explore different arrangements of appliances, preparation areas and serving zones, allowing the client to choose the configuration that best suits their lifestyle. The canopy also helps define the kitchen as a dedicated zone within the wider garden, creating a sense of structure and purpose.

Outdoor Office and Summerhouse for Flexible Use

Both concept plans include an outdoor office or summerhouse positioned to make the most of the garden’s depth and views. This structure adds flexibility to the space, offering a quiet place to work, relax or enjoy hobbies. It also helps balance the layout visually, creating a strong focal point that anchors the far end of the garden.

Seating Areas, Fire Pit and Planting for Atmosphere

Ample seating is included in both versions of the design, ensuring the garden can accommodate gatherings of different sizes. The fire pit creates a natural gathering point and extends the usability of the garden into cooler evenings. Planting and lawns are incorporated throughout the space to soften the structure, add seasonal interest and create a welcoming atmosphere. These elements help the outdoor kitchen and entertaining areas feel integrated into the wider garden rather than separate from it.

Walkthrough Animation – Bringing the Design to Life

To help the client fully understand how the outdoor kitchen, seating areas, office and wider garden work together, I produced a walkthrough animation. This visual tool shows how each space connects, how the canopy creates shelter, how the fire pit becomes a focal point and how the paving choices influence the overall feel. Homeowners across Pontefract, Wakefield, Doncaster and Sheffield often find animations like this invaluable, especially when comparing different material and layout options.

Why Concept Plans Matter for Outdoor Kitchens

Outdoor kitchens require careful planning to ensure the layout, materials and shelter work together seamlessly. Concept plans allow me to refine the design, test ideas and give the client confidence before any construction begins. They also make it easier to compare different styles, which is particularly useful when choosing between sandstone and porcelain or deciding on the best kitchen configuration.
