As a Sheffield garden designer, I love creating gardens that combine practical features with beautiful design. For this rear garden, I produced a set of garden design concept plans and a walkthrough animation to show how the space could be transformed into a multi-functional outdoor living area. The design balances natural stone with lush planting, outdoor dining, and space for growing vegetables.
Garden Design in Sheffield: Concept Plans for a Rear Garden
The clients wanted a garden that would be perfect for family life while also offering areas for entertaining and relaxing. My design brings together Indian sandstone paving, stone retaining walls, a water feature, and a bespoke outdoor kitchen with canopy or pergola. To make the space practical and sustainable, I also included raised beds for vegetable growing and a newly designed drive for off-street parking.
Indian Sandstone Paving with Cobble Sets
For the main patio, I selected Indian sandstone paving edged with cobble sets. This classic combination brings warmth and texture to the garden, and its natural finish ties in perfectly with the character of Sheffield homes.
Stone Retaining Walls
The property had changes in level, so I incorporated stone retaining walls to provide structure and a timeless finish. These walls not only stabilise the garden but also create defined spaces for planting and seating.
Water Feature as a Focal Point
To introduce movement and tranquillity, I added a water feature. The sound of flowing water creates a calming backdrop and adds visual interest throughout the seasons.
Outdoor Kitchen with Canopy or Pergola
The design includes a fully equipped outdoor kitchen, covered with either a canopy or a pergola. This feature makes the garden ideal for social gatherings, BBQs, and year-round cooking, transforming it into an extension of the home.
Planting and Lawn
To soften the hard landscaping, I designed planting areas with shrubs, perennials, and seasonal colour. A lawn area provides open green space for children to play and for the garden to feel balanced and inviting.
Raised Beds for Vegetable Growing
Sustainability and self-sufficiency are becoming more important in garden design in Sheffield. I added raised beds for growing vegetables, giving the clients space to enjoy home-grown produce in their own garden.
Drive and Practical Access
As part of the overall scheme, I redesigned the drive to provide better access and additional parking. Practical elements like this ensure the garden works seamlessly with everyday life.
Walkthrough Animation of the Sheffield Garden Design
To help the clients fully visualise the project, I produced walkthrough animations. This shows how the garden flows from the drive to the main patio, into the outdoor kitchen, past the water feature, and through the planting areas. It’s the perfect way to experience the design before construction begins.
